Loudoun Valley Senior Corrine Church Unveils Mural to Honor Local Nonprofit BetterALife as Capstone Project

May 27, 2025 - Corrine Church, a senior at Loudoun Valley High School and long-time volunteer with BetterALife, has turned her passion for service into a lasting tribute. As her senior capstone project, Church created a vibrant mural honoring the mission and impact of BetterALife, a local nonprofit that provides food, educational assistance, and life-skills programming for children and families in need.

Church has volunteered with BetterALife since for several years, when she would walk to the food pantry after school to help stock shelves and assist younger children with homework. Over the past four years, she has deepened her commitment to fighting food insecurity through advocacy, education, and leadership.

“When it came time to choose my capstone, I knew I wanted to give back to an organization that has inspired me and so many others in our community,” said Church. “BetterALife isn’t just a food pantry—it’s a place of hope, dignity, and change. Creating a mural was my way of saying thank you and leaving something meaningful behind.”

In addition to her volunteer work, Church is also active in the Miss America Organization, where she currently serves as Miss Fauquier’s Teen. Her Community Service Initiative, Hunger Hurts: Fighting Food Insecurity, takes her into elementary classrooms where she speaks about food insecurity and helps students organize food drives benefiting local pantries.

Elizabeth Ford, Executive Director of BetterALife, praised Corrine’s years of service and artistic contribution by saying, “Fighting food insecurity means more than putting meals on tables—it’s about building stronger, more compassionate communities. Corrine has embodied that spirit during her tenure with us. Her mural now stands as a daily reminder of what one young person can do to make a difference.”

BetterALife operates a wide range of programs across Loudoun County, including a food bank, family cooking classes, and educational enrichment in partnership with the Purcellville Police Department. The new mural, located inside the organization's community space, visually reflects the nonprofit’s mission: nourishment, education, and hope for a better life.

Corrine Church graduates this spring and has committed to attend the University of Alabama, where she plans to study Business Management and Marketing. She hopes to continue her work in service and advocacy, combining her business education with her passion for community impact.
